A proof of concept that will allow any independent software vendor (ISV) or customer to formally sign documents in virtual meetings has been developed for Microsoft Teams.
You can now sign documents in real time on Microsoft Teams meetings
The developers are Teams Ecosystem Engineering and they say the app will allow the document owner to select the document to sign and add it to a meeting. Then, depending on the participants’ role as signers or viewers, users will be able to sign or view the document during the meeting.
Teams Ecosystem Engineering is confident that authentication will be seamless through the Teams SSO they use, with Microsoft Teams being the most popular platform for real-time collaboration and document signing.
The Teams Store previously offered a variety of integrations with electronic signature providers, and now Microsoft is ready to implement this new solution following customer requests.
Customizable code for ISVs
Microsoft Product Manager Maritza Cartaya Escalona explained how the new document signing app works on Microsoft’s blog: “The code is customizable so that ISVs can select the type of signature the customer needs. use (manual signature, electronic signature or certificate – based signatures). Additionally, the POC can be customized for other scenarios, such as accepting changes in documents or in code reviews.
“This is currently available in the desktop client. Mobile and web clients are coming soon. Additionally, it only works for users in the same organization or tenant with availability for guest and anonymous users coming soon.”
What is an electronic signature?
E-signatures have become a necessary part of business interactions as more companies conduct some or all of their B2B interactions digitally through video conferencing and virtual meetings. Contracts, purchase agreements and incoming invoices can be signed with electronic signatures, along with legal documents such as NDAs.
Electronic signatures appear as a symbol or other data in digital format, which is then attached to an electronic document. Many electronic signatures will consist of an image of a handwritten signature, but not in all cases.
