Microsoft releases KB5017389 update for Windows 11 2022 Update to fix dozens of issues

Ahead of the upcoming Patch Tuesday, Microsoft released a preview version of update KB5017389 for Windows 11.

KB5017389 is a cumulative update for Windows 11 2022 Update — or Windows 11 22H2, if you prefer. This is a non-security update, but addresses a long list of issues that have been discovered.

Along with all the fixes and changes, KB5017389 also delivers the first servicing stack update for Windows 11 2022 Update, bringing it to build 22621.378. It also needs Windows 11 to build 22621.608.

Despite the long list of fixes, the update unfortunately doesn’t fix the issues that forced Microsoft to prevent some people from installing Windows 11 2022 Update.

  • Addresses an issue that affects some apps that have not been signed by the Microsoft Store. You must reinstall them after upgrading the operating system.
  • Addresses issues that cause Microsoft Store updates to fail.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents you from signing in to various Microsoft Office 365 applications. This affects Outlook, Word, Teams, etc.
  • Updates the start date of DST in Chile. It will start on September 11, 2022 instead of September 4, 2022.
  • Addresses an issue that affects the Windows Search service. This slows down the indexing progress of the service.
  • Addresses an issue that affects some processors. This issue occurs when you enable Hyper-V and Kernel Direct Memory Access (DMA) protections.
  • Addresses an issue that affects the static IP address of a network. The problem makes the configuration of the static IP address inconsistent. Because of this, NetworkAdapterConfiguration() sporadically fails.
  • Addresses an issue that affects Task Manager. It stops working when you switch between light and dark mode or change the accent color.
  • Fixes an issue that affects the font of three Chinese characters. When you bold these characters, the width size is incorrect.
  • Addresses an issue that affects graphics drivers that use d3d9on12.dll.
  • Reduces the power used by the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol on some devices when in sleep mode.
  • Addresses an issue that affects URLs generated by JavaScript: URLs. These URLs do not work as expected when you add them to Favorites menu in IE mode.
  • Fixes an issue that forces IE mode tabs to reload in a session.
  • Fixes an issue that affects Open window in IE mode.
  • Fixes an issue that successfully opens a browser window in IE mode to view a PDF file. Later, browsing to another site in IE mode in the same window fails.
  • Addresses an issue that affects Microsoft Japanese Input Method Editor (IME). Text conversion fails when using certain third-party virtual desktops.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause an app to become unresponsive. This can happen when the input queue overflows.
  • Addresses an issue that affects XML Paper Specification (XPS) viewers. This may prevent you from opening XPS files in some languages ​​other than English. These include some Japanese and Chinese character encodings. This issue affects XPS and Open XPS (OXPS) files.
  • Addresses an issue that creates a duplicate print queue. Because of this, the original print queue stops working.
  • Addresses an issue that may bypass MSHTML and ActiveX rules for Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC).
  • Fixes an issue that affects the Miracast user interface. Sometimes it closes too early when streaming to devices that use the DeviceObjectType:Aep.
  • Adds more dynamic Widgets content to your taskbar with a notification badge. When you open the Widgets table, a banner appears at the top of the table. It provides more information about what triggered the notification badge.
  • Addresses an issue that affects the SharedPC Account Manager. The issue prevents it from deleting many accounts while cleaning.
  • Fixes an issue that causes LogonUI.exe to stop working. For this reason, you cannot close the lock screen to view the credentials screen.
  • Fixes an issue that affects Dual SIM calls. If you select no sim on your phone and make a call on your device, the Dual SIM feature does not work.
  • Addresses an issue that affects the FindNextFileNameW() function. This could cause a memory leak.
  • Addresses an issue that affects robocopy. Robocopy fails to set a file to the correct modification time when using /IS option.
  • Fixes an issue that affects cldflt.sys. A Stop error occurs when used with Microsoft OneDrive.
  • Addresses an issue that affects roaming user profiles. After logging in or out, some of your settings are not restored.
  • Addresses an issue that affects the LanmanWorkstation service. There is a memory leak when you mount a network drive.
