How does this benefit businesses?
From a pragmatic point of view, the advantages are quite obvious. The machine learning method that detects malware, ransomware and potential viruses has a clear advantage. No company wants to be attacked by these sneaky programs, so preventing these attacks is obvious.
Using a similar approach, monitoring the behavior of your employees and making sure they don’t go to harmful sites is also an easy call from a business decision. After all, most companies already have restrictions in place on which sites their employees can and cannot visit. However, this is much more of a debate than the machine learning system.
Employee tracking is a huge debate. Following the eyes of employees working from home was floated throughout the pandemic, but it sparked an uproar over the software’s invasive nature. While not as intrusive, tracking your employee’s internet activity can certainly be seen as an invasion of their personal space, even if that space is virtual.
Even Microsoft itself has recently withdrawn from this space, having received a backlash for its “Productivity score”, revealed last year as a way to give employees a mark for the amount of work they did. In a blog post in December, he scaled back the original plans due to pressure from users:
