ICT Support Engineer – Microsoft Azure – Western Cape Somerset West

Purpose of the role:
The successful incumbent will be part of the ICT team to support the ICT needs of the organization as a whole as well as the ICT related needs of the respective development programs.

Skills/experience requirements

  • Higher degree in computer science or matric with relevant work experience as an ICT support engineer with a focus on Microsoft products.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • 2+ years Proven experience supporting an MS Azure environment – Certified preferred
  • 5+ years of experience managing Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO environments
  • Demonstrate experience and advanced knowledge of LAN/VLAN/VPN/Wireless/VOIP and WAN technologies.
  • 5+ years hands-on Microsoft Server experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on Microsoft Desktop experience
  • 3+ years of experience with VMware virtualization (Vcenter)
  • 3+ years of experience upgrading physical infrastructure (Datacenter)
  • 2+ years of Microsoft Office 365 experience
  • Experience with managing Microsoft print servers
  • Experience in performance tuning and capacity planning of virtualized environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking fundamentals (all OSI layers)
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft WSUS, MS SQL Server, IIS services and products
  • Exposure to administration of SAN storage and backup environment.
  • Exposure to managing and deploying antivirus software
  • Experience migrating legacy services and servers to the latest version of Microsoft Server
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and navigation

Skills and knowledge that would be an advantage

  • Certifications: MCSE, Azure, Linux, N+, CCNA, AZURE
  • Experience working with and supporting software development teams
  • Experience with ICT infrastructure monitoring tools, e.g. Opsview, Nagios, PRTG
  • Experience with scripting – PowerShell, python
  • Experience with automation/deployment tools such as Ansible
  • Experience in deploying and supporting open source solutions.
  • Knowledge of Cobit/ITIL/ISO 27001

Responsibilities:

  • Report to the ICT Manager and provide feedback and support on ICT projects as required
  • Support and maintain Microsoft Server and user environments on-premises and in the cloud (Azure)
  • Support and maintenance of the Microsoft Azure suite and services as needed, including information on moving to the cloud and adopting Office 365
  • Communicate areas of improvement to management, to improve the overall health and functionality of the Microsoft environment in the organization
  • Implement best practices and controls on the Active Directory environment, this includes all Active Directory functions
  • Implement strict controls and usability initiatives in the environment by creating and maintaining GPOs as needed
  • Implement best practices and controls on Exchange Online and on-premises services
  • Advise on installing, configuring and upgrading Microsoft servers and applications in accordance with system policy and requirements.
  • Suggest areas for improvement of internal processes as well as possible solutions
  • Installation and configuration of tools for event monitoring, capacity planning, performance monitoring
  • Support ICT governance initiatives and contribute to the development of policies/procedures
