EU antitrust regulators are following up on Slack Technologies’ complaints and may begin an investigation by asking Microsoft’s competitors whether the Teams app built into Office products will have a greater impact. There is a possibility. In a survey sent to competitors and consulted by Reuters, the European Commission focuses on the period 2016-2021. In early 2017, Microsoft set up a team to compete with Slack and other companies in the growing workplace collaboration market.
Acquired by enterprise software maker Salesforce.com in July, Slack told the committee about its dissatisfaction with Microsoft’s Teams software last year. Microsoft has been fined € 2.2 billion ($ 2.6 billion) for cases involving so-called related and other practices over the past decade, but declined to comment. Slack argued that it was illegal to link or consolidate teams to Office and asked EU competitors to separate the two.
Microsoft has said workplace chat is difficult to preinstall and uninstall, and U.S. companies have declined to provide information that would allow competing products to work with Teams and Office. This gives the Commission access to data where the bundled product can give the company more market power in both markets, while making it difficult for competitors to compete, especially those who only own the product. I started to ask if I wanted to.
We also ask questions about barriers to entry into the workplace application market, the costs of changing customers, and the importance of protecting user data. Rivals are a list of customers who have switched to Microsoft Teams or its Office bundle, the percentage of revenue lost as a result, and the impact of the integrated products on their investment in innovation and their products.
The survey asked if COVID-19 has driven demand for workplace apps and how that would evolve after a pandemic. Other companies that offer workplace applications include Zoom Video Communications, Alphabet’s Google, Facebook, and Cisco.
