Dear computer science doctor:
I receive over 100 emails every day. It seems to me that it takes forever to find the ones that really need my attention, and I get a little lost looking through them. I’m wasting too much time. Do you have any ideas to help me get through all of this and not miss the important messages? I use Microsoft 365 and Outlook.
Drowning in emails
Outlook has something called the Targeted Inbox. You can create settings that sort your incoming emails into two batches: targeted and other. Focus on the things you learn in Outlook that are important to you.
To activate your targeted inbox, log into your Outlook account and select the tab that says View. Then select Show priority inbox. The Focused and Other tabs will appear at the top of your mailbox. You will be notified of emails forwarded to Other, and you can switch between tabs at any time for a quick glance.
There are instructions on the Outlook Support website to move messages to the correct category and train your account to sort them the way you want.
Likewise, for Gmail users, you can ask your inbox to sort messages into categories: Social Networks, Promotions, Updates, and Forums, which can help you find messages that need your attention faster. .
Hope this helps! Until next time, Bonne Informatique!
