AMD and Microsoft are both announcing that they will fix bugs that cause problems for Ryzen users on the new Windows 11. The reduction can be quite large as it can cause CPU performance to drop by 15%.

AMD Ryzen performance bugs

AMD and Microsoft have in fact released patches to be able to fix the AMD Ryzen performance bugs present in the initial version of Microsoft Windows 11. This information was according to a AMD Knowledge Base article which would have been uploaded quite recently.

AMD reportedly provided a brand new chipset driver to address an issue that broke “preferred kernel” functionality. It is even said to improve the performance of Ryzen processors with high core count and high TDP.

Decreased Ryzen processor performance

According to story by ArsTechnica, while users’ systems will not be affected by the specific bug due to being running Windows 10 or even a low-core Ryzen processor, the new driver contains fixes for a handful of other Ryzen systems as well as Threadripper that run on Windows 10 or the newer version of Windows 11. The decrease in performance affects the processor itself.

Another issue would have affected the L3 cache latency on all of these Ryzen processors. This would then have reduced performance by 3-5% for most applications, with even a few games up to 15%.

Fixed Microsoft L3 cache issue

Microsoft has already started releasing a fix for L3 cache issues to various testers recently. It has been noted that this is one of the many different issues that have been fixed in Windows 11 version 2200.282.

Users can view their build number by typing “winver” in Windows Search or Run Windows. Those who have not yet installed the patch on their systems will actually show up as an optional update in the new Windows Update for Windows 11 Home and Pro users according to Microsoft.

AMD Microsoft Windows 11

Otherwise, the update should roll out automatically in the next Patch Tuesday package that should launch soon. For now, the performance bug could be fixed for Ryzen users who are using Microsoft Windows 11.

Despite the global chip shortage and AMD barely coping with the massive demand and lack of supply for its GPUs, AMD would launch the AMD Ryzen 7000 mobile series with 16-core Zen4 Raphael-H chips. Although not much has been revealed so far, an interesting 7000 series could be of interest because AMD is usually full of surprises.

The global chip shortage has affected a number of GPUs like the PowerColor Hellhound AMD Radeon RX 6700 replenishment. Could cryptocurrency’s transition from proof of work to proof of stake could be a reason why actions improve?
